CryptoSpend methodology

How CryptoSpend verifies fees, models annual cost, ranks spend routes, and handles stale data and affiliate relationships.

Annual cost formula

Annual cost = issuance and recurring fees + (annual card spend × conversion rate) + (annual foreign-currency spend × FX rate) + ATM fees after any free allowance. Tier, country, asset support, and physical-card choice are applied before ranking.

Conversion, FX, and ATM assumptions

Conversion is the issuer fee or disclosed spread for turning crypto into the card settlement currency. FX applies only to the modeled foreign-currency share. ATM cost uses the published percentage after monthly allowances; operator surcharges are excluded because they are not issuer-controlled.

Freshness labels

  • Verified: checked against an official source within 14 days.
  • Modeled: a calculated estimate, variable spread, or incomplete live quote.
  • Review due: the last official check is older than 14 days.
  • Stale: older than 30 days; after 45 days it must not support a verified money-page claim.

Independent ranking

Rankings use eligibility, asset fit, annual cost, route complexity, wallet support, and settlement. Affiliate commission is not an input and cannot change a winner. Non-partner winners still link to their official website.
